About
Minna-Marjaana Kaartinen is a multidisciplinary artist and designer based in Strömfors Ironworks in Loviisa, Finland. She has worked with her hands her entire life, shaping her ideas into visual expressions for decades. Since 2007, she has led her own clothing brand, Vietto, through which she has engaged in numerous creative visual projects—from designing websites and online stores to crafting textile prints. Alongside her fashion brand, her interests gradually shifted more toward art, leading her to explore different techniques with a broad and unrestricted approach.
Minna-Marjaana loves experimenting with new artistic methods, and currently, she creates her paintings using acrylic on plywood, while her sculptures are primarily ceramic. She is also fascinated by craft techniques such as tufting and embroidery. But that’s not all—besides visual arts, she also produces electronic music, with the goal of merging her visual artworks and soundscapes into cohesive artistic experiences.

“My artistic work is rooted in the joy of creating pieces that uplift my mood, amuse me, and bring pleasure. I experience color combinations physically, which is why I call my paintings ‘dopamine paintings.’ I blend colors that resonate with me—sometimes surprising, even unconventional—while formal shapes allow the colors to take center stage. In my ceramic works, I often dive into nature, though always through a lens of imagination. My works embody humor and an element of surprise. I also enjoy creating pieces that exist between functional objects and art. The themes in my work flow seamlessly between geek culture, nature, and pop culture.”
